Attractions in Stordal

Stordal Bygdetun
The Stordal Bygdetun manor encompasses the Rosekyrkje (Rose Church), the Prestetova (rectory), the Løsetstova (Løset-parlour) and an old “stabbur,”,a storehouse built on piles. These buildings are open to the public in the summer. All events and festivals organized by the Kyrkjehola Kulturbeite are held here.

Rosekyrkja (Rose Church)
Rosekyrkje (Rose Church) was built in 1789 and is known for its wonderful interior. In the summer the church is open to the public.

Stordalkyrkja (Stordal Church)
Stordalkyrkja was built in 1907 after Gamlekyrkja (Old Church) had become too small. The Royal Order of June 11, 1906 allowed the construction of a new church in Vinje, which was closer to the fjord than the Gamlekyrkja.

Løsetstova (Løset-parlour)
The oldest part of the Løsetstova in Stordal was originally built in 1790. The building was later expanded but it is not known when exactly this was done.

Ytste Skotet Residence
Ytste Skotet Residence is located on the west side of the steep Storfjord. Inhabited since the Viking Age (8th – 11th century), this mountain farm is set a stunning wonderfully 225 meters above the fjord and has been populated since the Viking age.

Kokarsteinen
Kokarsteinen is a roadside scenic outlook near Dyrkorn. Originally the Kokarsteinen (Kokar stone) was an enormous flagstone that according to legend provided shelter to travellers. The monument was erected on the remains of this huge stone. Today the location also includes a kiosk, a restaurant and leisure area with a view over the Storfjord.

Storelva
Storelva is an excellent salmon river. Along the river there is a nice path for hikers and cyclists. The path goes all the way from the mouth of the river to Storheim. Read more about its history (in Norwegian).

The Langsæter area and the Stordal Alpine Centre
Langsæter is surrounded by the summer-grazing pastures of Pusken and Kvitlane. You will find many old houses and cabins here. It is a nice area for hiking and is filled with excellent lakes for swimming. In winter the mountain has a number of ski spanning the eighth to eleventh centuries trails The Stordal Alpine Centre is located in Overøye.

Stordal Småbåthamn
Stordal Småbåthamn is a small harbour for approximately 20 boats. Close to the harbour mole you will find a leisure and barbecue area with a view over the Stordalsvika. There is also a cafe.

Jøssvoll
Jøsvoll was built in 1510. This family farm is currently owned by Else-Turid and Per Ivar Moe who have restored a great many of its historical buildings. The residential house, as it is now, was built in 1763.

Dyrkornanleggene
Dyrkornanleggene is an old, quintessential “industrial zone” near the lake in Dyrkorn towards Sjøholt. There is a store where you can buy Devold-knitwear. Occasionally exhibitions are held in the store.
